Typeface
After collecting old letters, notes and birthday cards, I was able to create a typeface of my Abuela's handwriting using Adobe Illustrator and Font Forge. This typeface would be used as titles for each designed artifact.

Recipe Cards
One of my Abuela's other talents was cooking the best Cuban food, but none of her recipes have been written down before. My mom however, grew up watching her and learning, so I had her write them down to the best of her knowledge and translated them to Spanish, so they can be shared with all family members, English and Spanish speaking.

Plant Booklet
If you knew my Abuela, you would know that she had the greenest thumb. Being on the 28th floor of a West New York apartment building, she had plenty of sunlight and fresh air for these plants to thrive. I documented the ones I could recognize from the photo on the last page. I illustrated all the plants and included their scientific name and some facts about them.

Los Tesoros de mi Abuela
At Northeastern, all students must take a Capstone class in their respective degrees. For design students, we have a semester long, self-led design project of our choosing. For mine, I wanted to create a memorabilia box for my Cuban grandmother, my Abuela. Some of the largest pieces of her personality were her plants, incredible cooking, and sewing capabilities. Keeping in these themes, I landed with three deliverables: a plant accordion book, recipe cards, and a typeface in her handwriting. The typeface was used throughout the final designed items and all would be assembled and kept in a tin sewing box with other memorabilia items as well (photos, old jewelry, fabric scraps, etc.)
